Thomas Gearty

Thomas Gearty was one of 80 artists worldwide selected for the 2001 Sotheby's Artlink international emerging artist program, with exhibitions and auctions in Chicago, Vienna and Tel Aviv. His photographs have been exhibited in venues across the United States, including the Bonni Benrubi Gallery in New York City and the G. Ray Hawkins Gallery in California. In his hometown of Boston, his photographs have been exhibited at locations including Dan Elias Fine Art, Bernard Toale Gallery, Howard Yezerski Gallery, Barbara Krakow Gallery and in the Massachusetts State House. Gearty's images have also been included in exhibitions in France, Japan and Canada.

Gearty's background includes extensive writing and teaching on photography. He co-founded the website, www.TeachingPhoto.com, and is a major contributor to two textbooks on the medium: Photography with Henry Horenstein and Russell Hart, and Black-and-White Photography: A Basic Manual with Horenstein.

Gearty received his Master of Fine Arts degree in 1999 from the Massachusetts College of Art in Boston. He has taught photography at the Art Institute of Boston at Lesley University, the Massachusetts College of Art and the University of Massachusetts at Boston.
