Born in Ohio in 1957 Valorie Fisher moved with her family to London, England, when she was seven and to Milan, Italy, when she was fourteen. After finishing high school she returned to London for a year and worked as a photographer's assistant. Then she moved back to US where in 1979 she pursued her BFA from Tufts University and the School of the Museum of Fine Arts. She now lives in Cornwall Bridge, Connecticut, with her husband and two children.

Valorie Fisher is the author and illustrator of My Big Brother and My Big Sister, both Oppenheim Toy Portfolio Platinum Award winners; and Ellsworth's Extraordinary Electric Ears, called "sassy" in a starred review from Publishers Weekly. Her photographs have been widely exhibited and are in many major museum collections, including the Brooklyn Museum, London's Victoria and Albert Museum, and the Bibliothèque Nationale in Paris.
